The city company Opatija 21, after the expiration of the concession agreement (March 10, 2018), announced the takeover of the city’s public parking areas, according to the decision made by the company’s founder, the City of Opatija.The director of the city company Opatija 21, Igor Štok, explained that after taking over this duty, he made an analysis of the current situation and business, and presented the development plans for the next term to the press. The ways in which they will engage in the activity in the future have been defined, so that all those parts that are not the core business of the company will no longer be in its system, which is motivated by the intention to achieve savings in business.At the same time, as Opatija 21 plans to take over the management of parking lots, but the company is also in charge of building new facilities (the first in the plan are garages Gorovo, for which planning documentation exists in a high degree of construction, and garage in Črnikovica, for which construction is yet to begin planning documentation) and the employment of new employees is also planned.The company will be run in such a way that the citizens of Opatija feel that the management of parking lots has passed from the hands of the concessionaire to the jurisdiction of the city company, Štok repeatedly told reporters.The first hour free parking for citizens and touristsThus, citizens will be provided with one hour of free parking per day in public parking lots in Opatija, because the billing system will have this possibility of realization, with Opatija being the first city in Croatia to provide its citizens with free parking for one hour per day.After the recent session of the Supervisory Board of Opatija 21, which analyzed data from the company’s operations, it was determined that the price of monthly parking cards for the use of the garage within the sports hall for employees of city administration, city companies and institutions, as well as those working in state institutions near the sports hall to amount to 200 kuna, while the price of commercial and annual parking tickets does not change, and the monthly remains in the amount of 500 kuna, and the annual in the amount of 6000 kuna.Štok stated that the procurement plan was presented to the members of the company’s supervisory board and adopted, and includes the procurement of new equipment for parking lots, which will be carried out through a public procurement tender in a specific time procedure dictated by the public procurement procedure. .With the novelty that the citizens of Opatija when Opatija 21 takes over the management of public parking lots can use an hour of free parking per day, the practice of free parking on weekends out of season remains in force.Through the new parking payment system, which is in the procurement plan, the option will be introduced that parking users can pay the price of parking with credit and debit cards, in addition to coins. Through the Opatija portal, 21 citizens and tourists will be able to pay for parking, ie daily, weekly, monthly and annual tickets. In the area of Opatija, 1150 parking spaces are currently managed by the concessionaire, while Opatija 21 manages the Gorovo parking lot where there are 70 spaces and the garage in the sports hall where there are 136 parking spaces.
